Studying to be a personal trainer: 4th Attendance weekend
By slhaf | October 28, 2009
After qualifying as a gym instructor my latest attendance weekend threw me in to the real business of becoming a personal trainer – and boy, was it fun! Yes, I did have a slight panic when I received not one, but three new and very thick manuals through the post to accompany the second part of the course (there’s been a LOT of studying), but the practical sessions more than made up for the late nights. It sounds clichéd, but as I struggled to use blood pressure machines, callipers, tape measures and find pulses on fellow students, to master how to screen clients as a base to measure their future progress, it really confirmed for me that personal training isn’t all about making money or having a flexible job, but helping people get fit, happy and live for longer. And that, as far as I’m concerned, is a satisfying thing to aspire to.

As someone who promotes some very good diet/weightloss programs online I would be curious to get your opinion on such programs. I try to promote only the very best programs available and given that they probably cost the same as one session with a personal trainer I believe they have a valuable place in the market. What do you think of programs of this nature and do you think they have a place in the market?
