Studying to be a personal trainer: 3rd Attendance weekend
By slhaf | September 28, 2009
After four months of studying, I’ve completed the first part of my course and I am now a fully-qualified gym instructor. Woo hoo! The achievement only sank in after I received a lovely certificate through the post (my mum and dad were so proud), and it’s exciting to think I could now go and work in a gym and give people inductions. My third attendance weekend wasn’t easy though. There was a lot of studying and planning to do and a ton of paperwork to fill out to prepare for all the final practical assessments, including a 20-minute group session, a one-on-one 90-minute induction and a ‘walking the floor’ session that involved approaching clients in the gym and giving them exercise guidance and advice. We didn’t stop moving for the whole two days and I felt exhausted afterwards, not just from the physical element of the assessments but also from the level of focus and concentration needed to get through. However, this was also the most entertaining weekend so far – the group of students I’m studying with are lovely and we all really bonded and had a good laugh. All in all, it’s been a thoroughly rewarding experience.

What else does it allow you to do? Are you allowed to make up personal plans for people in the gym or is it more ensuring gym members exercise safely?
