Rimini limbers up for ‘wellness on the beach’

By slhaf | June 25, 2009

Fitness fanatics, gym goers, sport lovers or people looking to embark on a fitness regime are in for a treat this summer when the stylish town of Rimini in Italy, holds its annual ‘Wellness on the Beach’ festival from early June through to the end of August.

The event is dedicated to the pursuit of health, harmony and wellbeing with over 20 beach clubs on the Rimini Riviera offering a wide range of fitness classes including step aerobics, pilates, yoga, and Feldenkrais workshops (specialist movement classes) to dancing and martial arts such as tai chi chuan.

The whole town will be throwing open its doors to educate and help visitors and residents alike improve their health and wellbeing by organising a series of special events to introduce more people to the different forms of exercise available.

‘Wellness on the Beach’ is all about celebrating the healthy way of life that Rimini and its Riviera has to offer and Maurizio Melucci from Rimini Tourism says: “Wellness on the Beach taps into people’s increasing focus on harmony and wellbeing to counteract the everyday pressures of modern-day living. The summer-long event will take a holistic approach and includes everything sports and energetic activities to relaxation and meditation and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to come and take part!”

In fact, those visiting the Emilia Romagna region this summer (where Rimini is located) can also participate in the Riviera Beach Games 2009. From 30 July to 2 August the entire Adriatic coastline of Emilia Romagna is engaged in the exciting Beach Sport “Olympic” Challenge in which visitors to beaches stretching from Comacchio to Cattolica enjoy a weekend of active fun! Beachgoers can enjoy volleyball, tennis, frisbee tournaments and sea swimming. There is even the opportunity to take part in a pedal boat race in Riccione, modern dance classes under the stars in Cattolica or tug of war with a pedal boat in Cesenatico!
